Math
-----
Instruction covers counting and arithmetic. We also teach children early fundamentals of algebra, including the idea that changes made on one side of an equation must also occur on the other. We use fun visual cues and models to make this easier, which research has proven to have a significant impact on the children’s ability to learn.
Reading
--------
We use a combination of phonics and whole-word recognition skills. Our methods are fun, and they have proven to be remarkably more successful than other teaching strategies. We create games that allow children to build on their phonics and create words in an entertaining environment that promotes learning. Research demonstrates that this program teaches children to read considerably faster than other reading programs, and the children love it.
Spanish
--------
We have excellent Spanish teachers. Nora and Manny are native speakers who have researched and created innovative, fun, and highly effective ways to teach Spanish to young children. Our Spanish teachers have bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees from the top child development programs. Our methods enable students to have fun while making tremendous progress. We immerse the children in the subject language right away, which allows learning to happen naturally and through processes similar to those by which the children learned English. Our teachers use visual cues along with stories and fun activities to make this type of teaching strategy more successful and exciting.
Chinese School/Mandarin
---------------------------
Every Saturday morning we will be offering Chinese School where children will learn about the Chinese culture and how to speak and write in this poetic language. This class will be set to teach children to write Mandarin as an art and learn about the beautiful stories that go along with each word. They will be given opportunities to paint the words in a fun and interactive environment. We also offer Mandarin during the week, which is taught in the same entertaining and educational method.
Learn Mandarin though Singing
--------------------------------
We believe that singing is one of the best ways to learn a foreign language. Kids will learn how to speak, read, and understand mandarin through singing, creative movement, and fun games. They will learn basic Chinese characters and the beautiful stories behind them.
French
-------
This class is for children or adults of any age that would like
to learn French and its culture. We will setup each class for
the group's age to learn French in many fun and effective ways;
singing, playing, interacting with each other, reading stories, arts
and many other activities. France is a very rich country, full of
history and arts. The children will have an opportunity to learn how
to read, write, and speak this beautiful language while engaging in the
remarkable culture.
Portuguese
------------
Portuguese is a language spoken in many different continents in the world such as South America, Southern and Northern Asia, and Africa. We will
be learning how to write, read, and speak in many fun and effective
ways. As they learn this new language, the children will also be exposed to
the beautiful Brazilian culture.
Korean
-------
This class offers an exciting introduction to the Korean language and culture. Lessons include learning how to write, read, and speak conversational Korean.
Visual Arts
-----------
Our hands-on classes in the visual arts teach children about historically significant artists and their techniques. We have amusing stories to go along with each artist, making the learning fun. Of course, the most important part is the children’s opportunity to do their own painting and sculpture. The children may take all of their original art pieces home with them once they are dry or fired in the kiln. We also scan or photograph all art and make a book that the child will have presented for the end-of-the-year art show. Each child will have at least one piece professionally framed, which he or she can take home, along with his or her personalized portfolio book.
Music
------
Our music class gives children hands-on experience with instruments such as the violin, clarinet, flute, bass, and the guitar among many others. The children will also learn the history of these instruments through fun, age-appropriate stories. We also expose the participants to a wide variety of types of music, giving them opportunities to dance and to experience the different emotions music can evoke. This is an especially fun one hour class exploring musical play. This class is developmentally appropriate for children; non-performance based, and provides early supportive experience of rhythm, beat, and melody through songs, movement, and instrument play.
Piano Lessons
---------------
A one hour long, fun and enjoyable group piano lesson, for beginners 5 years old and up. Students will learn to play piano and read music, along with music theory. Students will be able to each play on their own digital piano with head phones. The piano teacher will listen to and instruct each student individually while other students will have time to practice and work on the piano piece they were just taught.
Karate
-------
Oscar K. Hsu, M.A., earned the rank of a blue-belt in Shotokan Karate and teaches karate to kids as a form of developing physical and mental confidence. Feeling that one can protect oneself--that feeling of safety--imbues one with a sense of confidence to approach life boldly and without fear. In addition, practicing karate also helps develop a sense of discipline and is a fun way to exercise. It instills in the child a basic sense of body mechanics and stability that can translate into being poised and grounded.
Yoga
-----
Oscar K. Hsu, M.A. has been authorized by Lama Lhanang, a teacher of the Nyingma (Ancient) School of Tibetan Buddhism to teach basic anu-yoga, a form of Tibetan yoga, from the famous Longchen Nyingthig (Heart-Essence of the Vast Expanse Cycle). He has also been named a teacher (Hamsa Acharya) of a form of Kriya Yoga by an Indian teacher, Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath, who belongs to the Nath Sampradaya, the founders of Yoga. Thus, Mr. Hsu can teach fundamental Himalayan classical yoga to children as a form of exercise and physical development, to develop focus, coordination, patience and a sense of discipline to help children develop their nervous system and somatic sytem (joints, muscles, and tendons) to form the appropriate neural connections in their brain, therebye facilitating their overall cognitive and behavioral development.
And as far as qigong is concerned:
Mr. Hsu has also been authorized by Ching Fong Dao Shih, the Taoist priest, Clear Wind, as a certified Instructor of various Taoist practices, including various forms of qigong for self-regulating the body and its internal organs. These forms of qigong harmonize internal energy and the smooth function of organs while also strengthening them as well. He has also been authorized by a Wu Tai Chi lineage holder to teach postures from a medical qigong system for these purposes.
As far as all of these systems are concerned:
His basic approach is to focus only on a few forms, but with repetition, emphasizing quality rather than quantity. This is a very classical approach, with emphasis on going deeply into each one and gaining benefit from precision of practice from one or two forms with understanding of the principles and techniques used. In the beginning he favors flows (a dynamic sequence of multiple postures linked as a series of movements, one to the other) that combines qigong and yoga principles. Students also learn patience and discipline through stilling the mind during static postures. Qigong and yoga are ancient techniques to maintain and improve health, link body and mind, and put one's own health in one's own hand.
